Fact: Human trafficking exists in every country, including the United States. It exists nationwide—in cities, suburbs, and rural towns—and possibly in your own community.

Myth: Human trafficking victims are only foreign born individuals and those who are poor. 誤解：人身売買の被害者は、外国生まれの貧しい人々。 

Fact: Human trafficking victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality. They may come from any socioeconomic group. 

事実：社会的地位、環境、国籍、年齢、人種、性別とは無関係に人身売買の被害者は存在します。

Myth: Human trafficking is only sex trafficking. 

誤解：人身売買は性的人身売買のことを指す。 

Fact: Sex trafficking exists, but it is not the only type of human trafficking. Forced labor is another type of human trafficking; both involve exploitation of people. Victims are found in legitimate and illegitimate labor industries, including sweatshops, massage parlors, agriculture, restaurants, hotels, and domestic service. 

事実：性的人身売買は存在しますが、人身売買の種類はそれだけではありません。強制労働は人 身売買の代表的な一つでもあります。どちらも人の強制搾取を伴います。 被害者は、工場、農業、マッサージパーラー（違法風俗店）、レストラン、ホテル、国内サービスな ど、合法および非合法の労働で見られます。

Myth: Individuals must be forced or coerced into commercial sex acts to be victims of human trafficking. 

誤解：人身売買の被害者は、性行為を強制されています。 

Fact: Under U.S. federal law, any minor under the age of 18 who is induced to perform commercial sex acts is a victim of human trafficking, regardless of whether he or she is forced or coerced. 

事実：米国連邦法では、18歳未満の未成年者が性行為を行うように誘導された場合、強制でなかっ た場合でも人身売買の被害者となります。

Myth: Human trafficking and human smuggling are the same. 

誤解：人身売買と密入国は同じです。 

Fact: Human trafficking is not the same as smuggling. 

“Trafficking” is based on exploitation and does not require movement across borders. “Smuggling” is based on movement and involves moving a person across a country’s border with that person’s consent in violation of immigration laws. Although human smuggling is very different from human trafficking, human smuggling can turn into trafficking if the smuggler uses force, fraud, or coercion to hold people against their will for the purposes of labor or sexual exploitation. Under federal law, every minor induced to engage in commercial sex is a victim of human trafficking. 

事実：人身売買と闇組織による密入国は、同じではありません。

Myth: Human trafficking victims will attempt to seek help. 

誤解：人身売買の被害者は、助けを求めようとします。 

Fact: Human trafficking is often a hidden crime. Victims may be afraid to come forward and get help; they may be forced or coerced through threats or violence; they may fear retribution from traffickers, including danger to their families; and they may not be in possession of or have control of their identification documents. 

事実：人身売買は、闇の犯罪です。 被害者は助けを求めることに対して恐怖感を抱いていること が多い。脅迫や暴力によって強制されたりしている可能性があります。 被害者は、家族の危険を含 め、人身売買業者からの報復を恐れている事が多い。 また、加害者は被害者の免許証やパス ポートなどを取り上げるため身分証明書を持参していないケースが多いです。
